How BISERGS came to be
This will be the 9th BISERGS (Biggest International Soccer Expert Related to Greg Samuelson) since its inception in 1998. That year Greg, his wife and his brother-in-law made a small game where they divided up the teams to see who knew the most about international soccer. That year the French lifted the World Cup and Sharleen won the game. Sharleen went on to win the next two BISERGS, an incredible run that wasn't stopped until 2010 when her mother Carol was named BISERGS. In 2014 Sharleen's father, Rodrigo, lifted the BISERGS before Greg's brother Rick became the first BISERGSer related to Greg by blood to win the coveted title in 2018. Greg's daughter Emilie became the first winner from a generation younger than Greg in 2022 and in 2023 the BISERGS added the Women's World Cup and Greg's nephew Josh dominated the field to claim victory.
The game has grown and over the years 58 people have competed at least once. So far four generations have played the game ranging from parents and parents-in-law to the children of Greg's nephew. Greg's brothers Rick and Doug, along with his nephew Gray have played in six BISERGSs each, making them the most prolific BISERGSers after Greg and Sharleen.
